Recently, I delivered a keynote to a bunch of schoolteachers.
As we were talking about setting our priorities and putting the big rocks in first, one young teacher put her hand up. She shared how hard it is for her to step away on the days when she knows she needs to take some time out. The guilt and worry often stop her from putting herself first.
Occasionally, that’s okay. But if we never step back, the cost can be high and lead to burnout.
By stepping away when necessary and taking some time to rest and restore we can prevent burnout and maintain optimal performance. What often prevents us to do so, are feelings of guilt and excessive worry. By bringing them into full awareness and putting them into perspective, we can make wiser and more skillful choices that keep our long-term well-being and optimal performance in mind. We can give ourselves permission to press the purposeful pause.
Take time to rest, reflect and reset.
